The only aspect that can be agreed upon is that a drummer named Daisuke Inoue was the first person that created a machine that could be leased out and where people could sing along with a musical track. Unfortunately for him, he did not get a patent and his machine was too expensive to be very popular. During this same time, a Filipino named Roberto de Rosario invented a similar machine that he patented in the 1980′s, which is known as the first true karaoke machine.

As the 1980′s rolled in, the fad of singing karaoke hit other countries in the world, including the United States, where it took off like a shotgun. Today, it is quite easy to find a club or bar that offers karaoke in any city of the country. Karaoke machines are being sold to the public and it is even possible to buy software online that allows you to download your own music and set up your own karaoke machine on a computer.

The history of karaoke may be obscure in its beginnings and origins, but it has definitely made an impact in the time that it has been around.
