Many singers professional or otherwise love karaoke singing whether they are in bars or entertaining at home. If you want to be a singer this article will show how karaoke can improve how you sing. Everyone can sing it’s just that some of people are born with more natural talent than others the difference is lots of practice and training. Karaoke singing can definitely improve your skills at belting out songs here are tips on how to use the karaoke as a practice machine.

1. Accept your limitations because you can’t sing high notes the way Celine Dion can.

2. Take real good care of your voice, this is your instrument therefore go easy on the sweets and soda. Make sure your voice box does not get dehydrated because singing with a dry throat can hurt very much.

Rehydrate yourself with water and not soda. Whenever you have sore throat try this home remedy: honey with lemon.

3. Just like exercise you need to warm up before you use those vocal muscles. There are lots of warm up exercises over the Internet that are free you can look them up or you can have someone who know how, teach you.

4. The best way to sing a song on karaoke very well is to be familiar with the song. It’s not enough to read the lyrics, you have to know the song in and out.

So make a play list of the songs you would like to sing and listen to it while doing other activities or you can find the lyrics only and memorize. Knowing the song in and out without thinking about it, makes you focus entirely on your karaoke singing performance.

5. To get the resonance right, practice in the shower by singing anything you want.

6. Proper posture and breathing also plays a role in your singing performance because our ability to sing involves our lungs and diaphragm. Stand straight with your chest out and as you sing, your shoulders and face should be relaxed.

7. Just standing there and singing stiffly will not do your karaoke singing performance any good. Rhythm and groove is a big part of any performance so don’t be afraid to get grooving and moving to the beat.

If you feel like dancing while singing, let your body go because the more comfortable you are the better you will be able to belt the songs out more naturally in your next karaoke session.

8. If you’re singing karaoke in front of an audience, it’s a no-no to drink too much alcohol before it’s your turn to sing. A drunk singer is annoying and will never do any justice to everyone else’s favorite songs.

9. For goodness sake, please choose your songs wisely. Choosing songs that are out of your vocal range will have you shouting or screeching as you attempt to reach that really high note and this is the second type of singing that is also annoying.

10. Lastly, to improve on your karaoke singing, you must learn to have fun and become a good audience. Be a sport, cheer everyone, and learn how to clap even at the most annoying voice you’ve ever heard because later on you will sing in front and you will also want to be supported, cheered, and clapped at.

If you have a karaoke machine system at home, you can definitely improve your singing performance by investing in high quality karaoke speakers such as those that you can find at http://www.karaokespeakers.org this way you will be able to hear a better quality vocal output. When buying speakers for your karaoke machine, go to Karaoke Speakers for a list of available speakers that will fit your budget.

Although vinyl records are not that popular anymore there is still a vast amount of people who prefer listening to them. Collectors and music fans appreciate the sound quality and piece of history every time they play a record. Knowing how to clean vinyl records is essential as you will want them to last for as long as possible. This type of record is very easily scratched and sunlight and heat can also damage them so you will need to take good care of them as well as learning about record cleaning.

You will need to learn how to store your records correctly as well as learn how to clean vinyl so that they last for a long time. You need to store all of your records vertically as this will ensure that there is less stress on them. By placing them this way no weight can cause them to be damaged and crushed and they will not warp with the heat. You need to try and store them in a cooler place in your home as heat can damage the records.

You need to ensure that your records are stored in their sleeves as this will avoid them getting dirty and need record cleaning. Dirt is one of the biggest things which cause them to become scratched and damaged. Once you learn how to clean vinyl records then you can help them to survive even if they are not stored correctly. You need to handle your record correctly to avoid the grease from your hands going onto the surface of them. Always carry the record correctly or you could easily drop it and damage it or break it entirely.

When record cleaning you should hold them tightly to avoid dropping and scratching the surface and the records should be cleaned after every use. You should brush the surface with a carbon fiber brush which is designed specifically for records. This type of brush is designed to remove small particles from the surface of the record. Usually this and careful storage will keep your records in good condition and you will not need to do record cleaning too often.

If you notice that your records are dirty then you will need to learn how to clean vinyl records really well. If you have a collection that you rarely listen to they will need cleaning at least once a year, this will keep them in great condition and be ready for when you do want to listen to them. Your goal is to remove the dust, dirt and any other foreign bodies from the record and record cleaning will achieve this. Although you can buy many products to clean your records they can be expensive to buy and distilled water will have the same effect.

If you gently wipe distilled water over the record and wipe clean with a piece of paper towel when you are record cleaning. This will clean any grease and dirt from the records surface and keep them in the best condition. You will enjoy your record collection and will want it to sound amazing when you play it even if that is only a few times a year.

By Kelly Clark

From the earliest days of radio broadcasting many record companies would create what are referred to in the industry as, “DJ only”, “Promo Only” vinyl records. These records were never intended to be released for sale to the public and were only available to radio stations for airplay. The labels on these records are marked accordingly and often display the words “Not For Sale” on them. Although thousands of radio stations exist in the U.S.A. there are many different formats related to what content they broadcast. Some radio stations are talk radio and do not play music at all. In reality the number of actual radio stations that broadcast a particular musical format are considered to be somewhat limited as well. Because of the limited radio formats this also had a direct effect on the actual number of “radio only” or “D.J only” vinyl promo records that were pressed by the record companies. These these “limited” radio only pressings, or copies, are considered rare and collectible by most record collectors worldwide and even more so now that vinyl records are a thing of the past in the digital age.

Many times record companies would produce these limited “not for sale” radio station pressings to test different mixes for airplay or offer a shorter version of a song for airplay than that to be released on the actual 45 or album version. Radio stations rarely would give airplay to a song that was even close to 4 minutes long even in the mid nineteen sixties. An interesting example of how a record company used a “radio station only promo record” to gain airplay is from the recording “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers. The song shot to the charts and became a number one hit in 1965 but was assisted by the fact that their record label purposely misrepresented the actual length of the song. The “D.J only” or promo copy of the recording actually ran the full 3:45 however the label was printed to read 3:05 because of radios resistance to play song of such length.

The Righteous Brothers example of the use of promo recordings is an “exception” and certainly not the normal as to why record companies released limited radio versions but it is certainly one of the most well known in music history. It’s unknown exactly how many “promo records” were created by record companies but it would depend on the popularity of the artist as well as the amount of airplay a record would get. If a song got a lot of airplay more “promo/radio” copies of a song would need to be pressed. One reason was to maintain the on-air sound quality of the recording because of what was known in radio as “cue burn”.

Because vinyl records eventually degrade in sound quality the more they are played radio copies, of songs with heavy airplay, would eventually leave or create the sound referred to as cue burn. This happened because D.J’s would cue the record up to the actual sound or start of a record each time the record was placed on the turntable. In doing so the turntable needle would eventually leave this “cue burn” which is actually the sound of static or like a scratch.

Record collectors, especially of a particular popular artist, take special interested in these “D.J. Only”, “Not For Sale” radio rarities of the past due to the limited amount of copies ever pressed by record companies. Taking into consideration that vinyl records are no longer produced or marketed to the masses, AND the fact that most radio stations simply threw away their promo records once they became obsolete, it makes it easier to understand why these vinyl records are sought after by record collectors across the world.

Venue Operators Beware…

The entertainment licensing fees paid to BMI, ASCAP, etc. will not protect you or your business if you have knowingly hired a PIRATE Karaoke Host. The copies of their music, the images and lyrics shown on the screen, and the performances of those works in your venue, are indeed illegal.

DJ’s and KJ’s who offer thousands of song selections, and cannot offer proof of their legality, are pirates. YOU, as a Club, Venue or Event host may be held legally and financially accountable for a pirate’s copyright and or trademark infringements. A venue owner who knowingly hires a contractor that is in violation of the law, risks sanctions including the possible loss of their liquor license. Your Entertainment Licenses will not cover a Pirate, or protect you from possible prosecution!

“Individuals or Businesses that have a financial benefit from providing an opportunity for such infringing individuals or businesses to operate, create a liability for themselves and can be found to have vicarious or contributory liability.”

(as quoted directly from: The KIAA WebSite)

It is up to YOU as the person, or corporate representative responsible for employing said Karaoke Entertainment to check the legal status of your entertainers. The easiest way is to view their CD+G Discs, or ask for proof of legal compliance. REAL discs are “original” factory labeled discs, NEVER “burned copies”. If Your Entertainers use digital formats such as PC, Laptop, or Hard-drive units, ask to see the original discs that were loaded into their system, or a verifiable digital license. If they hand you excuses, or refuse to comply with your reasonable request, it’s time to wish them well, point out the error of their ways, and say GOOD-BYE!

Note: If you hire an entertainment company that has several KJ’s working with several different systems, EACH system MUST be supported with it’s own individual set of Factory Original Discs or licensed verifiable copies… if they aren’t, they are PIRATES! Several systems can not be covered by only one set of original discs or one set of licensed verifiable digital copies. It may be expensive, but it is the LAW.

Little known fact:

The changes in copyright law and “fair use” are on-going. Most legal sources maintain that “fair use” includes the transfer of digital media as: “1 to 1″… HOWEVER the commercial use of copied (burned) Karaoke CD+Gs is not legal for use in venues for profit (even for free drinks)… Commercial for profit Karaoke MUST be either from the Factory Original Discs or from Licensed Digital Copies ONLY.

In closing, please remember… Hiring a “PIRATE” karaoke provider may save you a little money in the short term, but getting caught up in the legal problems of a law suit will always be more trouble than it’s worth!
